The exchange system in Adopt Me is a source for sending items to another player in Adopt Me. Players used to be able to trade up to 4 items with the other player through the exchange system.
The update of this in 2020, has increased the number of items that players can trade to 9, but also added a test that players must pass to unlock the Business License, which is required to trade ultra rare or / and legendary items. This was done in an effort to prevent scams.
Negotiation process in the exchange system in Adopt Me
To start trading with someone, the player needs to click on the player they want to trade with and then select 'Trade' from the interaction menu, or press 1 for keyboard users. The other player will receive a trade request, which they can choose to accept or decline.
If the player accepts, both players enter the trade menu. Each player can add an item by clicking the green "+" icon and selecting the item they wish to exchange.
Clicking on an item in the trade menu removes it from the trade. When a trade begins, a counter in the lower right corner of the menu starts counting from 5, and each time a player places a new item or removes one, the timer is reset. This cooldown prevents users from accidentally accepting a trade after items are removed, added, or replaced.
When the countdown ends, it becomes a green 'accept' button, and must be pressed by both parties for the operation to be successful. If either user leaves the game or selects the red "decline" button at any time during the exchange, it will not run.
Another case where the trade will not take place is through Trade Failures, but that is no longer available as Adopt Me has addressed that by disabling player interaction icons during a trade.
If the game considers an exchange "unfair", a pop-up window warns the player with the unfair exchange that scam is a prohibited offense and warns the other party that they might be being scammed. If both parties continue, the system gives players an additional 15 seconds to accept or decline, so they can think about their trade. Sometimes if the trade is "unfair," the trade will fail.
If the other player's trades are disabled through settings, they will not receive any trade requests, and the player sending the trade will be prompted accordingly. Players who have trades disabled cannot send trade requests to other players.
Commercial license for the Exchange System in Adopt Me
The commercial license for the Exchange System in Adopt Me allows players to trade in their ultra-rare and legendary items if they pass the commercial license test. Players can also use it to view their trading history. Without it, players cannot exchange their Ultra Rare and Legendary items. To complete the commercial trial and obtain the license, players must go to the Security Center, which is next to the Hat Store.
